‘Listening to the Listener’ conference

Over 40 delegates attended a lively day of presentations and discussions at the RMA-sponsored ‘Listening to the Listener’ conference, organised by Sarah and Lucy as part of their doctoral studies.Β  The keynote paper by John Sloboda and Karen Wise was a highlight, and last minute cancellations by speakers struck down by flu meant that the SPARC team also presented a panel on methods, ethics, and values of listening.Β  The recurring theme of the day was that audience research is also audience development: many papers reported on audiences feeling more engaged with their arts experiences through having opportunities to talk about them, with each other and with researchers.
