The beneficial effects of music on the health and well-being of participants are well known, but what about its effect on local communities?
A new report on the impact of music on local communities, authored by SPARC director Professor Stephanie Pitts, is launched today.
Working in conjunction with a leading UK organisation for voluntary music, Making Music, Professor Pitts’s research examines the impact of leisure time music groups on their local community. The report, “Making Music, Making Communities”, offers clear evidence of the significant social and economic effect of such groups on their neighbourhoods.
“We very much hope this will lead to a more extensive piece of research as we continue to pursue these important questions together.” – Barbara Eifler, Chief Executive , Making Music
